Organizational Summary
In 2000, a group of elderly Korean immigrants in Fort Lee, NJ founded the Friends of Grace Seniors (FGS) at a 1,000 square foot office space, to serve and empower our new and growing community of Korean Americans with a future dream of building Korean Community Center and Retirement facility. These founding elders quickly became an anchor for all generations of Koreans in the area, ensuring access to health, social, cultural and educational services.
In 2004, the FGS rented and renovated a 20,000 square foot facility in Englewood, NJ, where it offered more than 100 different cultural and educational programs as well as comprehensive and professional health and social services. Over the years, the FGS has grown twenty times in annual budget, evolved and changed its name to the Korean Community Center (KCC) to better reflect its rapidly expanding member base and scope of services. The KCC’s programs have been open to the broader community and benefit 12,000 Korean and non-Korean residents in surrounding towns and communities annually.
In 2015, the KCC has moved to its newly built, state-of-the art modern three-story, 21,000 square foot facility in Tenafly, NJ. Since its inception, the KCC has been built on the dream to connect different generations in order to empower individuals to become leaders in mainstream society and important contributors to the Korean-American community. Since moving to the new center, we’re thrilled to see greater participation by the younger generation, including young families and children, and continued participation by seniors who have traditionally formed the backbone of our membership. The new KCC has become to better serve the next generation of Korean Americans as well as to establish itself as a community service hub for all Korean Americans in northern New Jersey. The dream of building a Korean retirement facility will be continued to better serve our older and frail senior members.
Through programs and services, the KCC helps to empower Korean Community resources and preserve Korean Heritage and Identity to be a contributing Korean and to promote healthy and independent living for dignity to be a respectful American. Past programs with a focus on the needs of the elderly and the under-privileged continue, but are now supplemented by programs catering to the needs of our future generations. The KCC is committed to provide three core services:
1. Culture and Education services
2. Youth and Family services
3. Health and Social services
